Gord’s travel photography

I’m on the road about half the time, travelling to visit clients in cities or at their mines. Most mines seem to be about 5 hours from the nearest major airport.

Sometimes I can bolt on a day’s vacation at the end of the trip for sightseeing and photography. These are photos from some of the wonderful places we visit. I made them into a poster to share with staff at BGC.

The poster, and indeed each of the images is square — a favourite format of mine, harkening back to my medium format days using 6×6 film and an 80mm lens.

My other favourite format in panorama — here are some panorama shots from my BGC travels….

I was able to time my trip north to Edmonton to be along Highways 2 and 2A at sunset and was rewarded with some wonderful winter colours. These photos are along a road near Lacombe, about 50 km south of Edmonton.

Sunset at Lacombe, Alberta — I love these prairie winter colours.

Our BGC photo club went to the Inukshuk sculpture at English Bay, a couple miles from the office. We spent a couple hours as the sun set near the solstice. What a busy place -- just being there was most of the fun.

The harbour in Red Lake, Ontario. I'm in for just a day and a night to look at a mine property about 70km from here that needs remediation. I got into town in time to catch a bit of dinner at a local eatery and watch a bit of hockey playoffs, then wandered down tot he harbour to take these photos just after sunset.

The Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel in the Canadian Rockies is a wonder place for photography.
